Families & children
As it happens to adult passengers, children are allowed to travel only with a valid identification document. Usually devices for carrying babies (i.e. strollers) will be labelled as checked bags, but can be retained until boarding, leaving them to the handling staff for loading onto the hold of the aircraft.
Most airlines allow families with babies to board the plane first. Children can also travel alone as UM (Unaccompanied Minors) on most airlines up to the age of 15, upon a special request at the time of booking. In this case children will be assisted and escorted by airport staff during all the airport procedures.
For detailed information on procedures reserved to families with babies and UMs always contact and refer to airlines in advance, since regulations may vary coinsiderably from carrier to carrier.
